Five Breakfast Ideas That Aren't Cereal

Are you tired of bland breakfasts? Upgrading the most important meal of the day is a lot easier (and tastier) than you think.
Five Breakfast Ideas That Aren't Cereal

Breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day, it’s the best meal of the day.

Start your day off on a high note with a filling meal that is not only nutritious, but also delicious. Why settle for cereal when there are so many more options out there that will have you thinking about the next day’s breakfast all day?

Here are five drool-worthy ideas that will have you waking up before your alarm every single morning.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Chocolate for breakfast? Yes please.

It doesn’t get much better than rich chocolate chips, smooth peanut butter, and the classic taste of pancakes coming together on one plate.

The best part? It’s simple and it’s a kid-friendly recipe.

All you need is:

Mix everything except the butter together. Melt the butter in a nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Once that’s melted, pour in your mixture (about ¼ cup at a time) and cook until bubbles start to form and the edges are golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for about two more minutes.

Sunny Side Up Toast

What better way to start your day than with a little bit of sunshine?

Turn your oven to broil and place the bread of your choice on a baking sheet. Cut a sun (or any design that you want) from aluminum foil and place it on the bread. Broil the bread until it’s golden brown (or your desired shade) and remove from the oven. Remove the foil and enjoy!

Breakfast Pizza

There is never a bad time for pizza, but why not try one that’s geared specifically to breakfast?

To start, form shredded hash browns into a pizza crust shape on a pizza pan, then drizzle with two tablespoons of melted butter. Sprinkle some salt and pepper over it for some added flavour.

Bake at 425 degrees for about 20-25 minutes. While that’s baking, fry eight pieces of bacon (or more) and scramble three eggs.

Remove the crust from the oven and sprinkle with the scrambled eggs, then break up the bacon and place it over the eggs.

Once the bacon has been added you can add your other favourite pizza toppings (ham would be perfect on this) and finish it off by topping with your choice of shredded cheese.

Pop it back in the oven for another 20 minutes and you’ve got yourself a mouthwatering meal before noon.

Cheesy Egg Toast

You could just have regular toast and an egg, but where’s the fun in that?

To get the best of both worlds, start by pushing the centre of the bread into the shape of a rectangle using a spoon. It is important to not go all the way through the bread.

Sprinkle some salt and pepper on the bread before cracking an egg into the rectangle that you created, making sure that you don’t break the yolk. You can season the egg using more salt and pepper or any seasonings of your choice.

Spread butter around the edges of the bread that are untouched by the egg. Sprinkle some shredded cheese on top of the butter and put your creation in the oven, toaster oven, or skillet and cook at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Make sure that you are watching carefully to ensure that it doesn’t burn.

Bacon Pancake Dippers

You’ve had bacon and you’ve had pancakes, but have you ever had them together?

Two of arguably the best breakfast foods come together for one savoury, yet sweet dish that may or may not have you licking the plate.

Cook your bacon, set it aside, and then mix your pancake batter according to the instructions on the box.

Put the pancake mix into a squeeze bottle (or something that allows you to have a lot of control over pouring the mixture) and distribute the batter into an oval shape that is longer or wider than the bacon.

Lightly press the bacon into the pancake batter and add more to cover the bacon.

Cook until the batter starts to bubble, then flip it over and cook for a few minutes longer. Serve these with your favourite syrup and you’ve officially earned the title of breakfast master.

The good part about these is that you can freeze them so when you want a snack, all you have to do is pull them out of the freezer and pop them in your toaster.
